Sunbeam Foundation is a community-focused school located near Nongrisan in the West Khasi Hills of Meghalaya. We believe that every child deserves access to meaningful, quality education, regardless of where they live.
Serving children from Nursery to Class 8, Sunbeam Foundation provides education following the State Board curriculum, while creating a learning environment that respects the culture, community and natural surroundings of the region.
For us, a school is more than a building or a classroom. It is a place where children discover their abilities, develop confidence, build relationships and begin imagining a future filled with possibilities.
Our Story
A School Built Around a Community
Sunbeam Foundation was born from a simple but important idea: children should not have to leave their communities to receive a good education.
For families living in the rural areas of West Khasi Hills, geographical distance and limited educational opportunities can make access to quality schooling difficult. Sunbeam Foundation seeks to bridge that gap by bringing education closer to the children and families who need it.
What began as an effort to create educational opportunities has grown into a school community that brings together children from different backgrounds, including Garo, Khasi and Nepali communities.
Our journey is one of steady growth, perseverance and community participation. Every classroom, every teacher and every student represents a step towards creating a stronger educational foundation for the region.

Sunbeam Foundation brings together children and families from diverse cultural backgrounds. Our community reflects the richness of the region, with students from Garo, Khasi and Nepali communities learning and growing together.

Growing Up Close to Nature
Meghalaya's natural environment is an important part of the experience at Sunbeam Foundation.
Our school embraces a simpler, community-oriented approach to learning, including the use of woven bamboo classrooms and locally connected spaces. These surroundings remind us that education does not have to be separated from the environment in which children live.
The natural world becomes part of the learning experience—encouraging observation, curiosity and an appreciation for the land and community that surrounds us.
Our Approach to Education
Strong Foundations for Lifelong Learning
Our academic programme follows the State Board curriculum from Nursery to Class 8, providing students with a structured foundation across their formative years.
Alongside academics, we aim to develop the skills children need beyond school: communication, creativity, collaboration, critical thinking and confidence.
We believe that every child learns differently. Our teachers therefore play an important role not only as educators, but also as mentors who understand, encourage and support each child's development.
Our Journey
Growing, One Child at a Time
Sunbeam Foundation continues to grow with the community it serves. Today, the school has 85+ students and a dedicated team of teachers, providing education from Nursery through Class 8.
Our growth is not measured only in numbers. It is seen in children entering school for the first time, students gaining confidence, parents becoming part of the school community and families seeing new possibilities for their children's future.
